Just got the truck back from the mechanic - he had to replace the "dashboard unit" in order to fix the speedo. Now I THINK the speedo is at least about right (better than before, when it was sticking and basically not reading at all), but the tach seems to be off.
Unless my ear is REALLY off, the engine is revving higher than it reads. And it says I'm doing about 2000 RPM in 4th at about 55mph - that sounds LOW.
The dash unit if from an automatic (it has PRND21 on it), but would that make a difference in the tach? Maybe it came out of a V6? Can it be adjusted?
Also, he did some things with the brakes and although they work fine, the pedal goes down farther than I'm used to before engaging. Is it easy to adjust?
He said the plugs REALLY needed changing, and I'm noticing a distinct increase in power - LOTs of "go" now! Filled the tank and reset the trip odo - we'll see what kind of milage it gets.
If the guages came from a V6 vehicle and yours is a 4-cylinder, the tach will be off by a noticeable amount...

I highly doubt you can adjust a stock tach, but it couldn't hurt to look. I bet they're different part numbers, though.
