You most likely have not reconnected a plug or have knocked one loose. Get a good light and crawl under the dash and check for dangling wires. You may have cooked a fuse while working on your radio, probably worth checking.

This may sound a little insulting, but...

Are you sure you didn't turn off the instrument panel light switch by accident when you were working? On my 97 truck, it's a weird little dial close to the emergency flasher switch. Not very clearly labelled.

Happened to me. Spent several months driving at night without knowing how fast I was going....

Sounds like the dimmer rheostat is disconnected

This is a typical problem encountered by people who know little about installing new headunits. The problem lies that they have grounded the illumination wire on the harness causing the dash lights, stop lights, and what have you to go out. You will have to replace the fuse under the dash and tape up the illumination wire on the head unit harness to prevent it from shorting out with the chassis.

What does that switch look like?? I can follow the wires from the dimmer switch to the taped up bundle, then all I see by the stereo is a Blue two-prong plug (not plugged in to anything) the cig lighter plug and attached to that bundle is a flat black plug that is hanging with no place to go

PROBLEM FIXED

The dimmer switch was bad...pulled plug out back, used paperclip to connect two of the wires and now they come on...

I cant dim them but for the $80 they want for the switch so be it
