94 SE V-6 4x4 tranny issue (maybe)

Bought a 94 SE V-6, extended cab 4x4 last year about this time. I love the truck except for one thing, the tranny is real funky. It seems as if the thing has some slip in itwhen starting off (except reverse which is great) and doesnt want to downshift readily. Now I can down shift using the selector handle but it does not like to do it on its own. I had the tranny flushed at the Nissan place but i dont think they changed the filter (bozos). Has anyone had any experience with these issues? If so would a semi-clogged filter cause them? Thanks!!

The filter is a simple mesh screen and it'd take quite a bit of debris to clog it up. The more likely answer is that the stock tranny cooler in the radiator is getting clogged. They all seem to do that. The best way to fix that is to install an aftermarket external tranny cooler and bypass the stock one entirely. If the stock one clogs up on you, it'll overheat the tranny and kill it.
