DEFINITELY don't get the OEM exhaust. First, it's expensive and second, if you look at it you will see that the diameter of that thing is really small. Something around 2.5" will give you a better flow, adding power and increasing fuel efficiency. I have a 97 QX4 and am thinking of a new exhaust as well, so we are in the same boat.
Unfortunately I haven't yet done a lot of research on this so I don't have a suggestion for an aftermarket cat-back. It's usually cheapest to get something custom fabricated or to buy a piping kit and muffler separately and bolt them on yourself.
