1985 nissan 4x4 z24 usa non california 5 spd
wont decelerate correctly. when i shift, the engine speed remains high.
i checked the clutch switch is ok, i found a couple bad wires at the carb harness and repaired them- one to the throttle switch, one to the anti diesel solenoid. verified the solenoid works, hooked 12v to it and you can hear it actuate.
no apparent vacum leak. dashpot is good, not stuck,i backed the adjuster down just to verify it wasnt hanging upat the dashpot. throttle spring is fine.
water temp ok, new thermostat.
here a constant click at carb when key is in on position. like the antideisel solenoid is going onoffonoffonoff.
so i want to check timing b4 going further, and i checked timing and find it at 20+ degrees. distributor hits end of adjustment b4 i can get it to 5 degrees and then it runs like crap when i set it closer to where it should be.
verified tdc- the correct way! no chain slippage.
the damn distributor seems to be a cog off. with crank and cam in tdc, the rotor is counterclockwise past the #1 terminal on the distributor cap, with the high spot of the rotor pointing at the screw hole--

seems to me the oil pump may have been removed and set back in a cog off. i hesitate to pull the pump to prove my theory so i post- anyone have this paticular problem b4?
oil pump must be off. anyway, i would like to verify and fix timing b4 i dig into an expensive carb problem or find an electrical problem contributing.i may have to do the unthinkable and bring it to a computer type mechanic . just bought this truck.
stiff ride - i will put some cool comfortable seats in it -
i hear this 1985 720 series has history of sensor trouble, front transmission shaft trouble, head gaskets blowing and not enough slack in the wiring harness. I also hear they are wicked off road, people like the body style, and its a cool truck- be happy when i get er figured out.
