(Thought I should make each question a separate thread, but then...)
More on the 1990 pickup, KA24, 5-spd with 270,000 kms:
1. The final drive seem really "steep" - it has 225/60 series tires on in now, and it's still pretty tall. I want to change back to "proper" 205/75 series (more ground clearance!), so that will make it even "taller". What axle ratios are available? How easy/expensive is it to change it: just the gears, or do I have to replace the whole rear axle?
2. The headlights are "wonky" - the previous owner's son replaced one, and it's Totally out of alignment (easy fix!), but it also seems to come on a few seconds AFTER the other one! Poor connection? Wrong light? Or something more serious?
3. I've done heads on other 4-cyl, but never an OHC. Is it a much bigger job, or more or less the same? Think it would make a difference with this engine?
That's all for now: Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
1. Nissan gears are very expensive unless you find junkyard sets.
2. Take apart the headlight switch on the turn signal stalk and clean the contacts. Common problem. If that doesn't do the trick, a new switch may be in order.
3. More or less the same. The head just has a cam on top and a timing chain going up to the head. Different setup, same concept.

Are there seperate relays for the right and left headlight? I cannot remember... The 205-75s are going to make the gears steeper. The reduction in rolling mass may make up for some of it. My 95 has 3.55 rears. I am not sure where you could get a different set from. Any model other than the 2wd 4 cyl would have different ratios, but I do not think it would fit under the truck. A 2wd 6 cyl would likely be your best bet.

Ah, 2 relays...might be the problem! I'll try cleaning the switch contacts first... Also, fits in with my question about manuals - a good Shop Manual would show me if there were 1 or 2 relays.
I know the bigger tires will make the tall problem worse - that's what concerns me. The only "saving grace" I can see is that iirc the ratio for the automatic was higher than the standard - perhaps this truck used to be an auto, and they changed the tranny but not the rear-end? If so, maybe I can find the gears for the std. tranny at a wreckers...
