Question Please help a newbie help with '02 Pathy!

Hi all!!

My girlfriend recently bought an '02 Pathfinder, and we've got a couple issues/questions about this vehicle that I'm hoping somebody can help us with. Vehicle is a loaded LE model, with nav. system, and Bose stereo w/6-disc changer (remote mounted). First question: There is a switch on the lower part of the dash (next to seat heater switches) marked "AUX.". Flipping this switch turns the stereo to "AUX" (on the display), turning the switch off also turns the stereo off. What was this switch intended for, and can it possibly be used to interface an MP3 player into the stock head unit?

Second question: Steering wheel audio and cruise controls... Are the buttons supposed to be lighted, or did Nissan think that nobody uses those controls after dark?

Any answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, and a Happy New Year to all!!

I have an 01 PF. Your radio doesn't sound like mine, I don't have those buttons and the changer is in the dash.

The buttons on the steering wheel don't light up, neither do the buttons on my wife's Odessey. However, it has never been a problem once you are accustom to their location.

No they are not supposed to be lighted, it doesn't take long to learn what they are so you can use them without looking.

Hi, I also have a 2002 LE and the AUX switch is for the optional video system if you have it (VCR/DVD), you might be able to use the switch for something else if you want to try hooking up others things and no, the steering wheel radio controls never lit up. Any other questions, let me know.

you may be able to plug an additional video/audio system into you AUX port, but that would disable your DVD use... try calling alocal nissan dealer and discussing location of the AUX in, it may be an easy switch...

Thanks for all the responses, folks!

I guess we'll live with the steering wheel controls not being lighted. Seems kinda stupid, though (IMHO). There were many other vehicles, in the same model year, with lighted steering wheel controls. Makes one wonder why Nissan didn't see fit to do the same with their vehicle...

Thanks for your input, Rabs13...
I had thought that maybe it had to do with the entertainment system (in my girlfriend's case, the DVD system), but playing the system and switching to AUX mode on the head unit didn't do anything. (I should add: Other than an owner's manual that deals only with the base Pathfinder, she received no other manuals. Not for the NAV system or the entertainment system.) Either the systems are not linked, or it was possibly disconnected for a hands-free cel phone kit. Is this a possibility? There was such a kit in her vehicle when she purchased it, and I have since taken it out. But, other than the power and ground leads, there appeared to be no other connections or splices with the vehicle's wiring. Someday, when I've got a little free time on my hands, I'll have to tear back into the dash to do a little more investigating, and hopefully come up with a way to utilize that AUX switch for her MP3 player.

Thanks for all your help!
