Please help...stranded on Christmas!!!

Hello All,

I'm writing this at 2:00am in hopes that someone out there can save my Christmas vacation.

I own a 2001 Nissan Xterra. I'm in in Syracuse, NY, on vacation from West Palm Beach, FL.

Tonight while en route to my holidays destination, I stopped at a truck stop to pick up a cup of coffee. Upon returning to my truck, I noticed that my gauges were frozen in place.....Gas, Speedometer, RPMs (stuck on "1") and Temperature (my digital odometer was not giving a reading at all).

My truck started fine but the gauges did not budge. I eased out onto the Interstate and the truck seemed to fun fine at first. However, as I increased speed, my truck started to lurch and became unresponse to the accelerator. I pulled over, started the truck again, with similar results.

Finally, I just started it and drove slowly to the nearest hotel....during this time, my service engine light came on.

Could anybody out there clue me in as to what may have happened here? Tomorrow will be the day after Christmas and I doubt I'll be able to find a service station who can help me out. Is it possible that this has something to do with the temperature outdoors?

i'd greatly appreciate any help that you folks could give me.

Thank You,
Greg Ferris

Alternator's gone out on you, I bet. They do that when the alternator dies.
