just trying to get a feel for things required,
A friend of mine suggested that i go to the junkyards and pull some heads off a 300z for my Pathy, from what i can tell its the same block in theory, and i know there is no way in hell i can do a DETT conversion without shredding the hell out of the front end, but for a start would it be possible to do a DE type conversion and what other parts would i need other than a complete head and maybe the ECU?
Too much work, too many new parts needed. There are good reasons nobody does that swap...they're green, rectangular-shaped, made of a cotton/paper blend by the government and people covet them...

swapping heads is not that much work IMO.
not to mention pulling complete heads makes things easier. you say too many parts are you thinking valves and cams or what?
if you were thinking i was doing an entire engine swap, well you must of misread.
It not that. You just can't simply "bolt on" DOHC heads to an original SOHC engine without adding quite a few things, for example:
-Timing belt tensioner, brackets and front cover
-You might have to swap the oil pump
-The crank pulley might not match
-The oilpan might not match the timing cover
-The exhaust manifolds are now going to be located differently than the SOHC ones originally were
-The intake manifolds might not match
-Is there underhood clearance for the extra width of the DOHC heads?
And so on...
I'm not trying to piss in your corn flakes, I was just trying to say that it's more than simply bolting stuff on for the most part.

Not to mention that the DOCH heads have a different bolt pattern. You can get a lot of power out of the 3.3 liter motor though. JWT or Nissan Motorsports cams, SLR or THorley headers, JWT air intake, SLR exhaust all will give yo uabout 40 hp.
