I am currently in the research phase of buying an '05 Pathfinder. I am interested in the SE package with the premium/comfort packages. I notice that with the Premium package you get the Bose audio system. On edmunds.com it says it is "Mp3 compatible," does that mean it does play mp3 discs?
I am deciding between the XE and SE, RWD. Is the Bose system worth it? I currently have a 800 watt system in my Dodge Ram. Will the Bose have at least decent bass? I also have a 10 disc Kenwood Changer, if I decide to save the changer, can I install it in the Pathfinder?
Any other advice/comments/opinions would be appreciated.
I think the new pathfinders are an awesome ride and they sure look good. plus the third row folds flat and out of the way but pops up if you need to squeeze 7 people in. If I were you I would opt for the SE just because you have the availability for the sunroof and sound package. I heard the new Bose system in the new pathfinder and it sounds way better than the ones of yesteryear. if you are refering to an 800 watt "Infinity" system in the Dodge the Bose will impress you with it's clarity and punch. If you had an 800 watt "aftermarket" system then you may be a little dissapointed since the Bose system will have more of a balanced sound. (not the "boom-boom" bass of an aftermarket system which most teenagers strive for) As for MP3 compatibility, if it says it is, you are supposed to be able to put a "mp3 file" cd in and it will be able to play them. As long as you format it correctly. You also get a bunch of other little features in the SE that are worth the slight increase in price over the XE (foglights, steering wheels controls w/ sound package, nicer seat fabric, etc) Good Luck shopping!
Later,

Thanks for the info black_night. It looks like I will be getting the SE with the premium/comfort package sometime this week. I do have an aftermarket system in the Ram now and it bumps nicely. As long as the Bose sounds decent, I won't mind. I think it's time to give my ears a rest.
just remember, hooking anything aftermarket to the bose can be done, but its not very fun, be careful, enjoythe ride...
Thanks Blank. I am going to be leasing the car, so I won't be modifying it too much. Maybe when the lease is over, I'll decide to keep it, then swap out the Bose.

I live in Southern, CA by the way
Thanks,

Keep in mind these are Bose 'speakers'. Bose doesn't make car audio systems. This is a stock system so it does not put out the wattage you are looking for. However, I'm very pleased and I think the fuss to put in a new system may or may not be worth the time. The system is loud as it is, but seeing as you are an audiophile it might make sense.
Be warned on a lease though, if you have radical changes, they can charge you big time to remove old systems and custom mods. Based on the lease options and your down payment, it's kind of a wash. Lease the Pathfinder loaded for $500 or own it for $650/less a month. That's with nothing down. Personally, I decided to buy. I've leased before and it's a great option for cars over 40K. At the 20K-35K, you have to weigh the hassles.
I also did a trade of a Mustang and asked for them to cut a check as cash vs. appling it to the balance. I put this away to offset the monthly later on and to have a cushion just in case.

Thanks for the info. In all honesty, I am getting tired of the system in my Ram, it's just too loud. I think it's time for me to get a decent sounding system and I believe the Bose will fill in the role.
I am not going to modify the SUV in any way, maybe just darken the tint. I can lease a fully loaded SE 4x4 for $329/month. In my current situation that's a good deal for me. I don't drive much and the residual is decent enough, if I decide to buy the car at the end I'm in good shape.
