Question Nissan pickup drive shaft

I have a 1990 Nissan king cab pickup. The u-joints in the drive shaft from the carriage bearing to the differential have gone out. The drive shaft is the type where the u-joints cannot be replaced (except by machining). I have a friend that has a 1989 king cab pickup that has a drive shaft with changeable u-joints. I would like to change my entire 1990 shaft with the 1989 one but am unsure if the spline that connects the front shaft to the engine will work. Shaft lengths from the carriage bearing to the differential look the same as do the shaft from the engine to the carriage bearing. Looks like all will fit. Just wonder if the shaft from engine to the carriage bearing will work from 89 to 90. Thanks.

I was told that the repairable units were manufactured by Dana and mainly used on Nissan 4WDs. The non-repairables were manufactured in Japan. Not sure if they will interchange, but any driveshaft shop should be able to sort it out.

It should be the exact same. They didn't change anything on the transmission between 1989 and 1990. Are you sure it's not just the carrier bearing? My u-joints have seen 143,000 miles of heavy abuse and are still working fine.

The shaft on my 95 2WD has non replacable bearings. I bought a rear shaft from a 89 4wd when lowering due to its replaceable u-joints. I found that the flanges are different. I redrilled my flange 45 degrees off to the new shaft specs, but this misaligned my u joints and created one heck of a vibration.

That a torch and heat the yoke where the u-joint end caps are at and you'll notice a plastic like substance comes out. Once it's out you can remove the end caps and the joint. The replacement joint will have snap rings to go on the caps....

as far as the carrier bearing is concerned, It is a press fit, and they made two different types...
