Yesterday I noticed that the temp gauge stays in the low range while driving. It usually stays in the mid section of the gauge. I was driving for over 2+ hours on the highway and the gauge still read below normal. What should I do to cure the problem? Replace thermostat and/or water pump? I have about 192k km on the truck and so far it's been trouble free. I want to get it fixed before winter if someone could point me in the right direction.
Cheers -Marcus
Sounds like a thermostat not reacting to the cooler weather.

How far below normal is it reading? Mine "normally" tends to run right at the 3:00 position, but even after warming up, the gauge registering as cool as 4:00 isn't uncommon, especially during cool weather. Remember that running on the highway is normally when your engine will run at its coldest, because of the ram air effect with your radiator.
sounds like a failsafe thermo stuck open... i wouldnt complain of cool running... unless its not blowing out heat for your defroster... i live in florida and in my climate the cooler the engine runs the better. normakl operating temp is about 200 to 240 degrees i dont have an aftermarket gauge yet but id say if i did im running about 225 on the highway.. id like to be right at 200
I have the base model where the temp gauge goes from left to right and it usually stays at 12:00 (straight) but it recently it has stayed below that. I'll replace the thermostat this week. How much are they?

i am with frankenssan - i wouldnt complain about it running cooler. provided the gauge doesn't say zero, you might just be better off leaving it alone. although the part is $7, the fun part is installing it. if you dont mind messing with your cooling system, silicone gasket sealer, and coolant, then go for it ..but until the gauge pegs out at the H or the C, i would leave it alone...
