98 Pathfinder knocking noise when engine cold

Hey this is my first post..Have a 3.3l pathfinder have almost new belts , water pump ..changed radiator fluid and ususal maintance,,,new plugs..keep oil changed every 3,000 miles with 10w30..In the last week when the engine is cold like first start it makes a knocking noise..oil is ok no leaks...I live in florida so weather isn t an issue..
after it runs for a minute or so the knocing stops..I have looked at the engine visually it looks like it is coming from the left side ..being fairly causious I hope it is not the valves starting ...should I change type of oil first or just take to my mechanic and let him put the fear in me..???? I can tguess on what it might be since it stops in a short period of time other than bad gas ..looking on the good side..Hav eput new air filter to start...\\\ It has 120,000 miles to date on odometer..thanks Mary

That sounds like a broken manifold stud, but that typically makes a ticking sound, not a knock.

you may have a lifter going out, if its "knocking" the lifter lost pressure or "leaks down", then when you start your vehicle the lifter has to "pump up" and will quit "knocking", make sense?
