Hey guys I'm new to the forums here, I drive a mazda 92 mx-3 but I still love nissans. I've wanted to get a nissan truck for sometime now. I'm looking at getting an 89-93ish 4x4 4cyl ext cab. My questions are as follows.
What year did nissan start using the fuel injected KA24E motor, was it 89? or was it different with the trucks. Because I have a KA24E w/transmission left over from my friends sr20det swap...So I would like to get a truck with the same motor...
Can you do an SR20DET to the 4x4? I imagine there is a problem with the transmission on the 4x4, or is there some way to frankenstein it with a bell housing swap or a kit available?

Welcome...1990 was the first year for the KA motor in the Hardbody trucks. The KA24E was used through 1997. In 1998, they put the KA24DE engine in, I guess to coincide with the introduction of the new Frontier truck.
hey mazstyle i used to have a mazda too but it got totalled by an old lady.. anyways i have 2 hardbodys 90 and 94 both 2wd with the ka24e the 94 engine was starting to knock slightly so i decided to swap the engine from the 90 into the 94 body because it has a/c and actually has a floor on the bed... the engine has 186,000 miles on it and it runs great.. the only noise i get is at start up for about 2 seconds iy rattles a bit ... ( probabally a weak lifter or lash adjustor not sure since i havent had the head apart on this one... ) but the ka24e is one heck of a good engine. alot better than the f2 or fe engines they put in the mazda b series trux. i had considered at one point swapping the nissan engine into the mazda truck because its so much stronger and more fuel effecient.. anyways hats off to nissan for making good engines.. my engine far outlived the body on my hardbody.. her body is dead but her soul lives on...good ole frankenssan
Thanks for the info guys, I can't believe the DE only started to get used in 98 man that sucks, cause I was thinking about it more earlier today and I would prefer a ka24de in the truck just for more power and aftermarket support... Do the 4x4's have different fenders then the 2wds?

Yeah, the DE probably has more aftermarket support, but realize the E engine makes the same peak torque as the DE (154 lb*ft), and I believe at a lower RPM. The E is a very usable engine. I think they only installed the DE because "everyone else" had DOHC 4-cylinders as their base engine. It only makes 10 more peak hp, and as I said, the same torque as the E.
I understand the fenders are different between 4x4 and 4x2.
There is a guy in my area that bought a 95? Nissan 4wd excab that blew it up 1 month after buying it. I highly suspect that it had to do with the huge mud tires he put on it. The truck has been sitting 2-3 years and the rain has still not washed off the muck. Anyhow, I have been trying to buy it off him and he still says he is gonna put an engine in it one day. It pains me to see it rusting away. Especially everytime I see an engine on eBay, etc. that would bolt in. His neighbors seem to regard him as the village idiot.... I tend to agree.
