I have a 1993 Pathfinder SE 4x4 that has a problem. The check engine light is on and the ecu will not flash codes when put into self diag. The red LED stays on but never flashes nor does the green LED ever even come on. It starts and runs, idles fine with no skips, and as long as you drive it like a 115 year old grandma it gets ya from point to point but sucks gas bad. And if you rev it in park it dogs out after about 2400 rpm. It acts like it is getting way to much fuel and sputters(and by the smell and usage it is). It acts like a bad TPS does or even a bit like a clogged catylitic converter. And while driving put the pedal down more than 1/8 to 1/4 of the way and it loads up. Not being able to retrieve codes points me away from any part other than ecu but my guess is that the ecu is bad but dont want to spend $300 for something that isnt needed. I was told back in high school by my auto shop teacher that only 1-2 out of every computer replaced has actually failed. Is there anything else that can cause the ecu to not enter self diag?
