1995 Kingcab 2.4 L won't start after replacing distributor cap
I recently changed my distributor cap and rotor and found that that engine would no longer turn over. Is there something odd with the cylinder orientation? I reconnected the plugs to the rotor in the prescribed order of 1,3,4,2. Any help would be appreciated (I am a novice DIY as far as car repair is concerned). Thanks.
there are 2 different kinds of distributors, Hitachi or Mitsubishi and the caps/rotors will NOT interchange with each other! If you still have the old cap look for the emblems (Mits, 3-diamonds) or check for a part number on the case of the dist. (22100-40F00 is a Hitachi, 22100-40F10 Mits) good luck!
does it back fire ? did you see if its even getting spark... did you replace the entire distributor, or did you pul it out of the engine because if you did and the gears atren lined the exact same way it was when you pulled it its out of time and wont run. you need to turn the engine to top dead center (tdc) not sure where the mark is on your engine mine is on the crank pulley, and make sure the distributor rotor is over thecontact that attaches to the wire for the # 1 cylinder im not sure how your truck is set up but thats basicly how you set ignition timing on any vehicle with a distributor.i havent looked at timing my truck yet im not sure if its adjustable as far as ignitrion timing? i know my mazda truck was adjustable but my gmc sonoma is not. in fact the gmc is distributorless.... grrrrr
Thanks for everyone's help. I think I've got the answer. It's definetly the wrong rotor/cap. I was finally able to find some pictures on the net and looks like the design for each is every specific and stays the same no matter who produces the part. I apparently have the hitachi distributor and the replacement parts I got were Mitsubishi style. So, four fouled plugs and several wasted hours later I think I've got an answer - thats what I get for being a novice.
just a little note, you can only put the distributor in ONE way, its fool proof, Nissan has done that for years. And shaq, I am glad you got things figured out
i did not know that i havent had to replace mine on the nissan but the mazda i had was like that and had teeth just thought it might be somthing to think about... appreciate the info man.
