Mom's 98' Pathfinder is a gas guzzler. Any ideas?

My mother tells me her 1998 Patfinder V6 is a gas hog. She told me the thing used a full tank on a 120mi trip. I havent checked it out yet, but I was hopping if anyone has had or heard of this. Maybe I can get a "leg up" before I check it out.
TIA

I recently bought an 89 Camaro Convertible and it was only getting about 10 miles to the gallon. After checking it out, the thermostat was "rusted open" and the engine never got to operating temp and thus the bad gas milage. Fixed that and now I get about 25 MPG.

Tuneup

Plugs/wires/airfuelfilters/02 sensor.........

Use synthetics in the front/rearends, transmission, transfercase and engine. Get an underdrive pulley. Switch gas stations.
Have autozone or someone scan the ECU for other issues.

Sounds like it might be time for a tuneup. The VG motors are pretty thirsty generally speaking, but the figure you gave leads me to beleive that there is something else going on...

in my pathfinder my best economy value on highway at 90 km/h was 9.5 liters per 100 km. partially i was using cruise control. in average, it is cosuming 13.5 liters per 100 km. when city driving is often, my worst value was 17.6 liters per 100 km.

car is 99 make pathfinder SE with 3300cc 168 hp V6. 100000 miles.

one must check first for air filter spark plugs brake alignment, wheel alignment and oxygen sensors and maf sensor. these are common problems on engines. also carbon buildup can cause little increase on consumption with degrading performance.

PS. last week i tried to drive very "economically", i was not in hurry and i wait for it to accelerate to constant speed veeeery slowly and i drove very slow like 40 miles per hour, but nothing changed. so normal driving is ok for me. as mentioned here somewhere there is an ideal cruising speed for each type of car. may be 88 kmh for pathfinder...
