1984 Nissan Kingcab 720 Series.... Need some help fast!!!
Hey guys. Im new here, but i have a real important question. I just bought this 84 Nissan/Datsun Kingcab 720. It is 2 wheel drive and a four cyclinder.
I need help figuring out what engine is in it. The guys i bought it from took out the Z24 thats supposed to be in it, and replaced with something else.
I know this new engine isnt a Z24, because to my knowledge, Z24's had 8 spark plugs, and this one only has 4. I'd love any suggestions.

possibly a ka24?
How many spark plugs does it have?
It only has 4 spark plugs, and the valve cover says "z series". Possibly the valve cover could have been replaced, but i doubt it. I also dont think it is a ka

did you check under the manifold?. possibly you didnt see the extra 4 injectors underneath. i believe it should be a z20 block also.

I have both the intake and exhaust manifold off, and there are no extra "injectors" or spark plugs. It is carburated, and i think it is a z20 block also. There are letters stamped under the intake manifold by the starter, and it says " Japan N84" which i am guessing N: Nissan and 84: 1984
thats all i could see

since you have the exhaust header off look on the very top of the engine block. not at the head. the casting of the engine block should stare right back at you. you will be able to identify the bottom end. i believe you have a z20 block. if you are also looking to identify the head look at the numbers casted on the head. and post them on this board. so we can help you further.
edit: by the way in my last post i meant spark plugs. not injectors. sorry if i confused anyone.

A word of advice: Toss this head and get yourself true SSS head(peanut ,closed chamber) or do what i did to my 77 KingCab: I took a u67 head and shaved it 0.60 to boost compression.Be sure to put an L20b front cover on as well because the bolt holes for a z-head are different from an L-head.YOU WILL FEEL THE POWER.

First of all he said it was a z20 not a z24 so don't call me a dumbass!!.Second,a z20 block is basically an L20b,w/ a z-type(Naps-Z,not a z-car) head.Even though a z-head is of a crossflow design,it was designed only for smog reduction, not horsepower gains ,so it's very useless to modify it.L-series head on the other hand, is very potent, and can extract lots of power from that motor.
So,as i said, the cheapest and most practical way to make power from this motor,is a high compression L-head,with twin Mikuni 44's or Weber 40's sidedrafts(like what i did).Yeah,it won't pass the smog, but who cares right?
Or, if you want to pass smog and still retain the early type L-head,just put a Weber DGAV downdraft,or Holley 2bbl.and hide it under the stock air cleaner.
Well,good luck to you man
