'01 Pathfinder LE w/ 275mm tires?

Got the stock 255/65R16 tires now, want to put on either:

a) 275/60R16 on stock rims or..
b) 275/55R17 on new rims

Would a) fit on the stock wheels? What width wheels would I need for option b)?

Anyone doing this, or see a reason not to?

Ok, I need to make a decision soon. After researching some more, I think 275's are definitely too wide a tire.

I'm looking at 265/60R17s, which have the same diameter as the original tires (245/65R17). I actually bought an '02 LE instead of the '01. I have the 17" x 8" oem rims.

Can anyone recommend a good tire in this size? What about the Bridgestone Dueler H/P D680s (these are not the same as the D689 crap original tires).

Michelin

It depends on what you do with your truck. I am replacing the original Bridgestones with Michelin LTX MS as they are highly regard light truck road tires. If you go off-roading, you might want something different. Costco online has $60 off if you buy a set of 4 Michelins.

Thanks for your reply. I don't plan on doing a lot of off-roading (more concerned with snow traction) and considered the LTX M/S but they only make one size in 17". I;ve heard good things about the Michelin Cross Terrains. At 255/60R17, they are smaller by a bit I think than orig diameter. Any opinions on these?

Also, just want to confirm that there are no issues with running 265mm tires! Would mileage/power decrease in any significant way?

larger tires

I considered going with a larger tire, a person on the Edmunds forum had gone a inch larger diameter and noticed more downshifting going uphill and a slight decrease in mileage. I tow a trailer and did not want anymore resistance than I have already so stayed with the stock size.

According to this calculator, 265 will give a 1/2 inch diameter increase.

Only trying them out will tell, but everything has a cost.

265 *should* fit I would think. I had a 97, which had that width in the Bridgestone Duelers,; my current 01 has a 255 width (Goodyear junk) on the same size rim. I don't see why the rim and the clearance in the wheel well wouldn't accomodate that size.
