Trouble code trouble

Hello,
New member here, great forum. I'm trying to help my nephew with his 95 Pathfinder. The Check Engine light is on. I read the instructions to pull the codes. When I go through the procedure, nothing happens. No flashing LEDs on the computer(just a steady red light), no flashing Check Engine light, nothing. What am I doing wrong? The screw I'm turning has a sticker that says Idle Speed Adjust with a hash mark that says Diagnostic mode. Am I turning the correct screw? There are no other screws, ports, doors or anything on the computer, that I can find.

My nephew is 17. He took the truck to beach the second day he had it. He admitted that he got his truck stuck in a puddle at the beach. I dug a little deeper and discovered that the "puddle" came up to the hood and water got into the cab. A tow truck and trip to the garage was also involved but he's not talking much. Don't you just love how teenagers will leave out the little details. I cleaned and checked all of the connectors below the water line and everything looked good, no evidence of water intrusion or corrosion.

This truck is a 95. It idles at 1500 rpms all the time and burns very rich. Could something be so wrong that the computer won't even go into diagnostic mode? For starters, I'm guessing that a temp sensor is bad.

Thanks for the help.

If he dunked the thing in ocean water and got the ECU wet, it's toast. You'll need to find a replacement ECU from a like year and transmission equipped vehicle before running trouble code tests.

Sounds like the ECU is fried. Next question. What do I look for? Exact same year, tranny, etc? Is there a chart of compatible ECUs? I searched for info on this but didn't find anything.

Get the Nissan part number off the top of the ECU and use that to find a matching unit. It should be two sets of five digits, for example: 23710-88G61 is the part number for a 1990 Pathfinder V6 non-California-emissions-equipped model with a manual transmission.

yes in referance to your:QUESTIONS; Yes that:<IDOl~adj~SCREW> is the correct one you need to be turning; SECONDLEY,you need <FIRST>to make sure that after you:<turn your ignition switch to the#TWO POSITION ON THE COLUME,"""<BUT DO NOT START>"""; NEXT TURN OF COURSE,THE IDOL~ADJST SCREW <CLOCK~WISE>: NEXT WATCH AND COUNT YOUR: <::::::> or BLINKS. <NOTE>:AFTER YOU TURN THE ADJ SCREW ON THE <ECU> WATCH YOUR BLINKS, BOTH LEDS OR FILLAMENT'S <RED/GREEN> SHOULD BOTH ""ILLUMINATE"" IN SEQUENCE, OK"? ASSUMING THEY DO WHEN YOU SEE BOTH FLASH:<THREE~TIMES> IMMEDIATLY:<TURN~COUNTER CLOCKWISE> NOW YOU ARE IN WHAT IS REFERED TO AS:{MODE~#3} THIS IS YOUR SELF~DIOGNOSTICS MODE,OR KEY ON/OFF ENGINE NOT RUNNING! OK NOW THEN IF: ""ONLY ONE LED WHICH YOU STATED, YOU SAID IT WAS THE:{RED} FILLAMENT COMING ON AND STATED IT IS STAYING:<CONTINUED~ILLUMINANT> THEN THE PROBABILITY IS THAT SOMEWHERE GENERALLY:<THE MAIN PRIMARY>IS AT FAULT!!! BE SURE YOU CHECK/INSPECT, BOTH DRIVER/PASSENGER SIDES OF LOWER PART OF <INTERIORE~INSIDE>IT WILL BE LOCATED BELOW YOUR DASH A BOTTOM THERE WILL BE ATRIM)PANAL TO REMOVE ON BOTH ADJAICENT SIDES<INSPECT THAT THE PRIMARY<BLK IN COLOR IS IN WAY DAMAGED OR THAT THE OUTER SHIELDING IS IN NO WAY MELTED OR WRINKLEY LOOKING!!! ALSO ANOTHER FAIRLY ROUTINE INSPECT FOR YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION IS:<INSPECT YOUR:<MASS AIR/FLOW~METER USUALLY LOCATED OR ATTACHED TO THE:<THROTTLE~BODY> AND EITHER TAKE AN :<OHM~METER>~OR~LOOK DOWN INSIDE THE LITTLE HOLE THERE AND SEE IF YOU CAN VISUALLY DETECTE WETHER OR NOT THE <TWO> THERMASTERS ARE IN TACK/OR IF THEY ARE NOT? IF THEIR NOT THEN YOU HAVE WHAT WE CALL AN OPEN LOOP CIRCUIT, IF THAT OR ALL APPLY'S REPLACE AS NEEDED OR ANOTHER OPTION AMONG MANY IS TO SUBSTITUTE YOUR:<OLD~ECU/ECM>FOR A KNOWN GOOD ONE!!! BEST OF LUCK AND HOPE THAT HELPS ALSO: YOU CAN BYE IF YOU LIKE, YOU CAN ALSO GO TO:<WWW.ALLDATA.COM>& PURCHASE A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE:<YR/MK/MDL> OF DESIRED VEHICLE YOU ARE WORKING ON EITHER WAY AGAIN HOPE THAT CLEARS OR ATTEMPS TO CLEAR UP SOME OF THE FOGIENESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCING BEST OF SUCCESS TO YOU!!!!

That's one of the most confusing posts I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Please kill your caps lock key immediately and stop posting things on the internet.

Confusing indeed, but helpfull. I'm guessing he is from the other side of the pond and ran his post through a translator or it is a cut and paste from somewhere and it didn't work out the way he expected.

No problem, I can understand most of it and any help with this is useful.
