As most of you have noticed, there is an air scoop just under the engine around the oil pan on the front underside of the Murano. Since I do a little light off roading and dirt roading on hunting trips, this thing just seems to get in the way, pick up trash, and is subject to getting nailed going over any obsticle. Has anyone got an idea of whether this thing is actually usefull or just someones lapse into over engineering? I have been thinking about removing it.
It is there to draw cool air for the Steering and lower mains. As the dynamics of the vehicle keep the air flow from leaving atop of the hood/bonnet area.
If you get an aftermarket QUALITY air intake or the NISMO intake, you can more than
safely close it off. As the engine is then ingesting much cooler air and the flow will not be needed as much. YET, if you cruise around town and sit in alot of traffic, I would not recommend closing it off, unless an oil cooler and water wetter was used.
