Hello, I have a Older 1993 King Cab Pickup truck, V4, Automatic transmission, 2 wheel drive, and about 140,000 miles on the engine. What sort of mileage would this truck normaly get under these conditions? Right now it seems to be getting really low gas milage, like 12-15 miles per gallon. Also, is there any cheap/easy solution to improve the gas mileage a little? (like under a $100 cheap) Also, what is the Tank size of this truck? It seems to be 15 Gallons but if someone have a more offical # that would be better. Thanks for any help.

You say you have a V4. Do you mean V6 or inline 4?
At any rate you should get better mileage than that.
I have the 4 cylinder in the 95 King cab, with the 5 speed.
I have 202,000 miles.
I was getting 19 mpg on the highway, but I really stomp it at the lights, and I go 78 mph on the interstate.
I picked the brains of these knowledgable guys on this forum and have improved my mileage up to 23 mpg.
Some of the stuff I already knew, such as:
Change the fuel filter. I need to change mine every 15,000 mi.
Change air filter.
Change plugs [you don't have Bosch do you?], change plug wires, rotor and distributor cap.
Run a bottle or two of Chevron with Techron fuel injector cleaner through the tank.
The tricks I picked up from this forum are:
Clean throttle body
Change Oxygen sensor.
Get all these squared away, do it yourself for under $100, you will improve mileage and power.
ps Tank size 15.5 gallons
on a good day my 95 hardbody king cab automatic gets MAYBE a little over 200 miles to the TANK...it sucks...maybe i shouold work on that..i've got NGK plugs, some NASCAR official brand wires, changed rotor and distributor cap, done the fuel injector cleaner, have a good air filter, and just changed the fuel filter. i guess i just need to change the O2 sensor and clean throttle body, how hard are those to do anyway?!
edit:: i am usually either doing the speed limit or up to 20 miles over on the highway ( if i get a ticket, i don't want it to be TOO bad!) and i do floor it to get up and go everywhere...tested it out one day..not doing that doesn't seem to help my gas mileage so i do it anyway!

The Oxygen sensor can really help the mileage. It is about as hard as changing a spark plug.
Cleaning the throttle body is even easier.
Just go to the top and use the search function, these two are discussed at length.
I own a 97 2wd x-cab (4 cyl / automatic) and get 26 mpg on the highway as long as I don't exceed 65 mph.
As previously suggested in the thread by other members, I changed the fuel filter, front O2 sensor, cleaned the throttle body and installed NGK plugs.
I also advanced the timing 2 degrees which seemed to help the mileage the most.
Also, a lazy air intake temperature sensor (bolts under the air cleaner) can also cause bad mileage. It makes the engine run rich (good for a little extra power, but terrible on gas mileage). I noticed for two days that my truck was running a little stronger, but the gas mileage took a hit. The third day the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I pulled the code for the air intake temp sensor and replaced it. The mileage immediately jumped back to the mid 20's. I heard that some owners put a resistor on the air intake temp sensor wire to make it permanently run rich. Again, good for a little extra power, but bad for gas mileage.
I have a 94 king cab with the 4cyl and a 5 speed. I get 20-21 basically all the time regardless of my driving habits. Increases to about 22 if I am doing all highway. I have done all the about mentioned (plugs, wires, distr., fuel filter) but have not done the O2 sensor, yet. I drive it pretty hard every where, some days harder than others depending on whats in my stereo and how work was.

If yours is a 4x4, that sounds about right. That's about what I get...mine's a bit lower, though. I get 19-20 no matter what. I can get as bad as 17-18 if I run wide open all the time, but it's generally not too bad. Running on the Interstate has the engine spinning so fast (3000 rpm), I imagine it's hard for it to get any better mileage. Indeed, the EPA rating is 18/20 for the 4x4 KA24E.
hey, i have a 95 hardbody 3.0 with around 173k miles and i get 19-22 mpg and that is with a bad habit of speeding (anywhere from 10- 60 mph over speed limit)
I have a 95 HB 2.4, auto..........19 mpg........the engine seems a little wavery and slow to accellerate until hitting 3000 rpm. Truck runs and idles smooth. No pinging.....no tailpipe smoke but noticed the inside of the tailpipe is black. Is the black condition normal for nissans?. Did someone say they advanced the timing 2*? how you do that? thanks
