screw cheap mods. what are some good mods for an 85 pickup

Ok theres another thread going about cheap mods for an 85.
people said air filter/catback. well that stuff is done already.
whats next.

is there ANY other trannsmission that will work with the z24 motor?
a car tranns would be nice.

because the motor is VERY powerfull. torque is no prob
but its all in the gearing. i know it is. i think this truck would fly if it had the right gear ratio's btw how much does the z24 come with HP wise??

what kind of numbers would me and my friend see off a new holley carb? or whatever brands there are?

im lookin for better gear ratios and maybe 25 more hp.

dosnt have to be 10 cent mods. but yea. dont plan on spending 4grand on 10 hp if ya catch my drift

lets see some info.........

My 88 z24 gets about 120 hp I think. Do you want more torque or more hp?

If you have the money to spend go to 4x4parts.com

You'll have to look up the figures yourself because I make a habit of not filling my head with useless numbers.

Have Fun!

i dont know if it works for pre ka24 pickups but if you have an manual tranny you can look into getting a automatic trucs rear end, it has lower gearing so youll fly off the line but lose top end and some highway mpg, if your really interested in spending some money, look into levelten.com they sell some sweet auto trannys. i know with the z24 you can get webber side draft carbs, and since there modular its easy to take them off and bore them out a little, but beware here as well, a direct quote from one of the members on another nissan board said "forget miles per gallon, with these carbs i measure gallons per mile" i know thats an extreme exageration, but i know that your mpg will drop a fair amount , but with that problem also comes a significant increase in hp, plus side draft carbs make the z24 look amazing. just check out other threads here and other forums, a year ago i kknew almost nothing about nissans, but im also a fast self learner,

otherwise you can do the basics full exaust, (headers, pipe, cat, muffler) nitrous(small shot), port and polish, up your compression, cams, pullys, possibilities are nearly endless,

How does the z24 only have 120hp?

my uncle has a 77 datsan and on the drivers side under the hood there is a badge saying the 1.6l has like 130hp and 120f/lb tq. its a stock badge. so i was thinking the z24 had like 150hp+ and it was all geared down? thats why i asked about possible trade's of the early model 240sx tranny?

any trannys out of a car at all that will bolt up?

How? Because that's the way it is. Look at this link:

http://www.off-road.com/nissan/720faq.html

The most powerful 4-cylinder, horsepower-wise, in a Nissan truck was the KA24DE, in the Frontier (142 hp). The 4-cylinder with the most torque in a Nissan truck is tied between the KA24E and KA24DE. Both have 154 lb*ft of torque.

That site above shows the Z24 to have 103 hp. The Z24i might have more, but certainly not as much as the KA24E. 120 hp sounds about right.

Ka24e has 134hp, A mod I have been looking into, is to use the KA24 head on the Z24. The head was first used in 1990, the head made a gain of almost 30hp due to eliminating a spark plug, and adding a intake valve (per cylinder).
