Question This could be a new one--warped speedo needle

So I get in the truck to go to work yesterday and the speedo needle has warped over the weekend. The truck was just sitting in the garage, the temps were nice, not too hot or too cold.

It is now curved down and touching the gauge face so that it drags and does not give the correct mph reading. I can now go anywhere from 0 to 20 mph at a stop sign. If I thump the plastic cover in front of the speedo, it goes back to 0.

Any ideas as to why the needle would warp??? We did clean the inside of the truck, maybe that was a bad idea. Don't know how this would warp the needle as it has not in the past. Any other ideas as to how to fix it without tearing the whole thing apart and putting a new needle on? 1991 hardbody with V6 and auto tranny if it helps any.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

I have an 86 1/2 hardbody, my speedo needle has the curve thing going on too.. but its not touching anything. I thought about taking the speedo out and warming up the needle a little and correcting it but...... I just havent got to it yet

So from what I have read on various threads around here, once I get the dash apart and can actually get to the needle, I just need to move it below the 0 peg and let it settle and then pull the old one off and push a new one on at that same settle point then put it back over the peg and put it all back together?

Am I leaving anything out? Hate to get a speeding ticket due to a dumb mistake on this.
