'04 xterra brake questions

hi everyone,
i'm new to the forum. just bought an '04 xterra XE-V6 5-speed last week. it was a great deal and actually worked out to be around the same price as a few used trucks i was looking at. anyway, i'm not sure if there is something wrong with mine, so i thought i'd ask here.

whenever i use the breaks, it sounds like something needs to be oiled or greased. i'll hear clicking-type noises coming from the front breaks. actually it's more like the sound mattress springs make when someone sits down on on a bed. i usually don't notice it unless i'm pulling into a parking space or in stop and go traffic. i usually can't hear it if i'm driving regularly and stopping at stop signs.

also, my two front tires are covered in what looks like break dust. is this because the xterra is new?

is there a problem, or is the noise normal for nissan brakes?
the reason why i ask is because my previous vehicle was a '97 jeep cherokee and i never had this happen.
thanks!
jon

You have ABS. Our Xterra does the same thing. Yet, it is best to break in the brakes easily and use the tranny/clutch to slow down. Do not rely so much on releasing the clutch and rolling while using the brakes. This tends to heat them up and the ABS is consistantly tapping the rotors to keep the pads and rotor cool, along with making sure the braking force is equal.
If you do not like the Dust, buy the KVR pads. They are 1 of the few which are accepted by NISSAN.
