I am trying to figure out the actuall size for the speakers for a 1991 2dr hardbody, crutchfield says 4 inch but best buy says 5 /14 inchs. it looks like the 5 1/4 inch would fit but i am not sure. also how do you measure speaker size? is it from mounting post to mounting post or is it the diameter of the cone?
The 6.5 in fits my 95 perfectly. The factory cutouts line up right on the money. Please note that my truck came without a radio so I had to cut out the perforation on the back side of the door. If you are trying to use the factory speaker covers, this may not work for you. I think the measurement is from edge to edge.

My 93 came with 5 1/4's, but after taking them out i noticed a metal ring that they were attached to. took it out and mounted some pioneer 6 1/2's. just needed to drill holes.
thanks i rember seeing that ring when i was trying to measure the speaker size. i wasnt planing on using the factor covers anyway. when u said u had to drill holes were they to mount the new speakers and did u have to tap them or just use self taping screws?
My '95 came with 4" speakers, and since my previous car had aftermarket 4"s I just switched them. But that same car had 6 1/2" in the rear deck. I'd love to put those 6 1/2" in the doors instead. It didn't look like they'd fit when I did 4" switch, this makes me wanna take a second look. Are you guys installing them flush with the interior door, and are you using the original speaker covers?

Flush, yes Original covers, no. To install them use the metal clips supplied with the speakers. Mark the hole location with the speaker, pre drill a small hole for the screw to pass, and install the clips. Make sure you put the punched threads to the back with the clean drilled side toward you. Then mount up the speakers. I am not sure with the other brands, but I found the 6.5s to sound a heck of a lot better than the 5 1/4s.

I agree, the 6 1/2" are nice speakers. In my experiences, they have better mid to low response. Right now I have 4 year old blaupunkt 4" in the doors, with a bazooka 6 1/2" tube, powered sub behind my bench seat. Sounds pretty good, but I'm sure the 6 1/2" speakers would be a noticable improvement.
