Question Replacing engine in KingCAB 4x4?

Is there anyone who can give me some advice on how to replace the engine in my KingCAB Diesel 4x4? I've bought a complete car that we've stripped of all parts needed. The frame on that one had rusted so badly it was in two pieces... When we removed the engine we noticed that there isn't enough clearance between the front axle and the oil pan, so that lifting out the engine was rather difficult. In the car we scrapped that wasn't much of a problem since we could take out the complete engine+gearbox in one piece. We had already removed the body from the frame so everything was easily accessible. This isn't the case with the car I'm replacing the engine in though. What is the easiest way to do it? If I remove the prop shaft, can I move the gearbox enough to get enough clearance or will I have to lift the body off the frame?

cheers,
Anders

From what you are describing, it sounds like you should remove both of the drive shafts and loosen the transfer case and transmission mounts. That should give you enough room to maneuver the new engine into place. Once it's bolted to the transmission then you can bolt it to the truck's frame and then tighten everything else up. Good luck!

I'll try moving the tranny as soon as I get a new seal for the crank. There was some signs of oil seeping out so I guess replacing it before putting the new engine in is the way to go. I'll keep y'all posted on what happens.

cheers,
Anders
