Hi could someone shed some light on a problem I have. I have a 1998 Qx4 and the engine was blown I took I to a local shop to put in a rebuilt engine and they did but when I looked at the engine it said Nissan on the engine I did not remember seen this on the Qx4 before? after the engine was install I kept having problem with the transmission changing at fourth gear then fourth gear stop working and the transmission was shot when another tech look at it he said that the engine was a pathfinder not a Qx4 and that why the transmission went because you can’t put a pathfinder engine with a Qx4 transmission is this true?

In short, no, that's not true. The engine is the same between the Pathfinder and the QX4. It's Nissan's VG33E engine, which is a 3.3L SOHC V6 engine. 180 horsepower I think. No difference between the Pathfinder and Infinity version. The possible difference you are seeing is, maybe the original engine had some sort of a "beauty cover" or something that said Infinity, but the engine itself is the same. If the transmission went out, that's a separate problem.
not to nitpick but that isn't quite true. The FX is based on the RWD FM platform that underpins the G35 and 350Z and the Murano is based on the FWD Altima platforms. They are actually in most of the ways different animals except for both using a version of the 3.5 and some common interior bits. just thought I'd straighten that out
later,
