Use ATF. That's what Nissan factory-filled it with. You "can" also use other types of lubes. I've heard of some using 80W-90 gear oil. But the official answer is Dexron III ATF.

You use Dexron II ATF for the transfer case but DEXRON III is compatiable with Dexron II. The transfer case is an add-on to the transmission. Example:

Power distribution

Engine-->Transmission-->Transfercase--> rear driveshaft
Front axle<-- Front drive shaft<------V

Some use a small driveshaft that connects the transmision to the transfer case (85 or older Nissan Pickups) but yours is right behind the transmission. Get a haynes manual ($15) or dwonload the PDF Nissan Servivce manual for $20 @ www.nissan-techinfo.com to get the best info and how-to on your trucks 4WD system and its other components.

I believe it said you can get a FSM for 94 up on the site. I saw where you were looking but they have it for a 95 according to the site.

Its more indepth and technical but a haynes manual is a good suplement to the FSM for its "shade tree mechanic" layout and its a good quick reference book while working on your truck in the garage.
