Hey guys, I'm a n00b here looking for some generic info about tuning the hardbody pickups. I'm sure you've heard these questions a million times so take it easy on me :P
I have a 1992 hardbody, 4 cyl. manua tranny, I want to start a project on this truck to turn it into a rally racer Nothing serious, just a hobby.
So, I have just some generic questions:
Do you know anyone who has done this? If so, do they have any websites or guides that I can leach info from?
Where are some quality part dealers/brands that you guys use? Around here all the local shops are all AutoZone and O'reilly. I'm looking for a reliable dealer on the internet that has good service and quality parts. Also What are the best brands for aftermarket Nissan parts?
A good place to start? I've never tuned a car before, so what parts do you recommend to start with? I don't wanna start with the engine because it's too expensive and I don't honestly know if I'll ever finish this project. Same goes for body styling. Maybe I should start with exhaust or suspension and work my way from there?
All I need is some good info or advice to start, and I can figure out the rest (hopefully) from there. I have a good snap-on tool set and I've been doing routine maintenance (well, the simpler stuff anyway) on this truck for over 10 years, so I know it pretty well.
Any info or advice you have, I'd really appreciate it!

You want to make a pickup truck a rally racer why? If you don't mind me asking. It will have terrible weight distribution for that and its not gonna hold up well with an open differential. Maybe a Baja racer but rally? Meh.... its possible but dreams = $. You'd be better off making it into a Baja truck but you need a new supension for that the leaf springs would probly hold up about 20 jumps or so before they snapped.
I live in Houston TX (everybody and their grandma drives a pickup truck here).
Well like I said, I don't plan on seriously racing this truck, I just want to fix it up for fun. I'm just not sure what direction I want to go.
Baja trucks are cool, but I don't really want to put a lift kit and big tires. I want it to be more like a car, but not slammed with low-pro's either.
Of course it's not gonna be a WRX, but I'm bored with the slow boat pickup feel and I want to turn it into something more fun. I already have a new car, but rather than sell the truck or throw it in the dumpster, I want to hang on to it and start a project.

Anyone else have any info?
Put an SR20DET in it...It will fit prefect....

93 Nissan Hardbody**SOLD**

Now 06 Mustang GT
I thought this link might help. There are a few posts there about tuning the Hardbody models. I had 260K of 90 Hardbody 2x4 and that thing had plenty of ZIP. I sold it for $300 and still see it around town today. It came with a 2.4L and I just kept it tuned, clean and threw a K&N into it. A short shifter may have helped now that I look back. It was a riot in the snow.
there are som things you can do to the motor but you are very limited to what you can do.I have found a few places that will build you a custom motor made out of titainum.i think the cost was around 25k but it will have all you need to win a race lol around 700 bhp, the most common swap is the sr2.0, that around 5k cheaper then the (costom)
but if power is what your after go for the vg3.0dett
I have a '94 nissan d21 hardbody this is not recommended i turned the timing way up on mine, it cost me the bottom end of the motor but there was not to much that would beat it lol alls it do'se is change the firing time to give you more top end or bottom end tork
