Changing Brake Pads

Someone told me I could need a special tool for the piston when changing brake pads. Is this true with an 88 Pathfinder V6 4x4?

If you're changing the REAR pads and your vehicle is equipped with rear disc brakes, that's the case. Often called a "brake cube". For the fronts, you just need a C-clamp to squeeze the piston back into the bore to make room for the new pads.

Thanks

Thanks, I looked in the service manual, which in my opinion is very vague, and it did not mention any special tools. Now all I have to do is find the lock nut.

Hey, look at the piston after removing pads. If it is smooth, then it should just squeeze in. If it has high and low places, then it likely turns in. The cube has tits that grip these low spots so that it can be spun in. I know that Maximas had 'em but I'm not sure on the Pathy.
