Question Fog light control - want indie switch

I've replaced the ol' factory fog lights with some nice Halogen lamps, but I want to control them independently of only being able to use them with the headlights on. It would be great if I could turn them on with the parking lights or just solo. The lamps I got came with a switch/relay/cables but I have NO idea how to install that stuff (but want to learn) ...and is there is a Nissan looking "switch" for the dashboard?

Thanks
Mike

Nope - they have diff plugs that do not match the mating locks from the Nissan Factory, so I just slice and spliced for now. But what I really want to do is override or rewire them to be controlled independent of the "only on with headlights" feature that Nissan wired. I don't really know how to go around relay swtiches and mess wtih fuse links (power circuits and control circuits), and I'm afraid to touch that stuff (but want to!). So it's slice and splice under the front bumper for now (and drill on new brackets).

My Halogens did come with a on/off LED switch that attaches to the dash, that it claims can be easily connected to the (+) of the battery or the fuse link box, and then run the on/off switch through the car's firewall to the dash...but I have not tried that yet either...it feels so "aftermarket" that way.

Hope this helps.

Cool

why don't you run the wires to the switch & ground it from there (fuse it of course)? eliminate the circuit from the body electrical module if it has one.

I think that is what the after market instructions are - to just tap the (+) either on the fuse box or elsewhere, ground the other, and run the switch. The kit came with a 15 amp fuse and small relay as well, all wired together. So they were thinking ahead. 3 Q's

1) I'm not sure how to find the (+) to the fuse link box, and don't want to damage anything...any tips on finding it?

2) Ground the fog-light system anywhere on the chassis? Any tips?

3) How do I get through the firewall from the engine compartment to the dash with out removing too much hardware?

Thanks!

Mike

did you happen to salvage the old wiring from the stock application? I'm looking for the stock controls for installation into my hardbody. I have the lights and bumper inserts just no wires yet and am trying to stay away from radio shack!!!lol

Funny...I just bought some Radio shack wires (smaller gauge) for running a flashing LED to the rear of the pathfinder as an additional flashing security light. Hmmm, maybe I don't want to install with that wire.

I didn't pull out any of the original wires(for now). I hooked the Halogen lamps I got into the old system that has the rotation switch on the blinker/lights arm. I plan to run my own hardware for the lights with their own swtich, which I will put on the dash in one of the empty slots under the stereo (next to the rear washer switch), but again, I think I will leave the stock hardware in their in case I have a problem in the future.
