I am new here so hello to all.......I have been having an idling problem with my Nissan for quite some time now. What it does is when it is at idle, it goes high RPMs low RPMs high RPMS low RPMS for about ten seconds then goes into this "barely keeping myself runningmode" then back to the high low crap. I found a sensor yesterday (right beside the oil filter) that had a wire broke off...The sensor screwed into the block and had one wire...What is this sensor??? well anyways...I got it to stop the high low crap, but it still acts like its has a miss...... I never changed the pcv valve (could not find it till I found this site)...would this cause the miss sympton??

I had a similar problem in my 1995 2.4L 4x4. The check engine light was NOT on and I couldn't figure out the problem. I posted a topic and heard all kinds of sensors that I should check, all of which were good. I finially took it to the dealership and found out it was a air leak where the air filter housing attaches to the throttle body. Sometimes it is the most simple things. Just a thought. If the PCV valve was out, the truck wouldn't run. Mine is located on the back side of the engine. (pain in the a## to get to). What exactly is your truck doing.
I had a problem like that too, but it felt like it was dying when i idled. I found out my Rear Intake Gasket was bad. A mechanic has some spray stuff that is used to find out if the gasket is good or bad. Check that out. My 94 4x4 runs fine after replacing that
The sensor is most likely the oil pressure switch they way your describing it (mine is beside the filter on my 89 V6 TB Pickup). The oil pressure switch sends a signal to the ECM if it detects a loss of oil pressure that could cause damage to the engine. I do know the sensor is used to help get the ecm into closed loop and without a signal form the sensor your truck is gonna run like crap or not at all. To check the intake gastket(s) all you need is a can of throttle body cleaner or starter fluid but no carb cleaner its corrosive to certain coatings. Take the cleaner and while the truck is running spray some along the gasket between the intake and the head at several angels and from both sides of the engine. Have someone watching the tac; if there is an increase in the rpms while the gasket is being sprayed then theres a leak which causes a loss of vaccum (sp?) that results in crappt/ poor running. Easiest wat to check for a leak is to remove a vaccum line on the intake side and use a vaccum guage to see what its pulling (around 15 is normal I believe). The first thing I would do is to replace that switch and see if the ecm fixes its self, if that doesn't work then look for a vaccum leak. BTW engine driveability problems are the hardest kind to fix b/c off all the stuff that can go bad so be patient with it and eventually through diagnostics or just S.W.A.G.ing it you'll get it running fine once more. Good Luck!
The pcv valve screws into the intake manifold on all models up to 97and its connected by rubber hose and metal tube to the crankcase. You will have to take off the air cleaner to get to it as the PVC is typically a bastard to get to on nissans. Disconnect the rubber hose from the pcv valve and crank up the truck you should feel a vaccum when you put your finger over the valve if not you took off the wrong hose or the valve isnt working.
About the parking brake check to make sure the cable is adjusted properly and that it isnt binding or rusted. My parking brake cable snapped due to the rust eating through it but I don't really need it now so it is on my to do list. Also the shoes may need to be adjusted out to where they barely rub against the drum if you jack the wheels off the gound and the rear brakes don't stop the wheel from moving while the brake is applied while someone is trying to spin the wheel. You can also try to adjust the shoes automatically by driving in reverse and hitting the brakes hard, do it a few times but thats only for a *minor* adjustment.
Hello.
I noticed that you found where the PCV valve was on your 1995 4x4 truck...
I too have a 95 4x4 nissan truck, where is the PCV valve?
Also, my emergency brake does not work. Just put new rear brake shoes but it did not help. Any ideas?
I found it on the firewall side of the engine (closest to the cab) under the air filter housing in a VERY hard to reach place. Close to the engine (if that makes any since to you).
As for the e-brake, try to tighten the levar under the bed that connects it to the brake drums. It is shaped like a Y (I think) there should be a tentioner thingy to adjust.
The PCV valve on a 4-cylinder engine is down low on the block, on the front side of the engine. It's threaded into a plastic block, immediately behind the alternator. Remove the wheel well lining on the passenger side, look straight in at the oil filter. Directly in front or above the oil filter, and directly behind or to the rear of the alternator, you'll see the PCV valve. There's a 5/8 or so inch rubber line coming in from the left (as you look at it) that connects to the plastic box. At that connection is the PCV valve.
95truckin, not sure what you found at the rear of the engine, but I don't think it was the PCV valve. The breather tube is back there...it connects the rear of the air cleaner to the rear of the valve cover. This line should be completely open, except for the breather filter in the air cleaner itself. There should be no PCV valve in this line...or a valve of any kind.

Actually, My Mechanic buddy cleaned out my throttle body last year and he told me it was there. I believed him because he has never been wrong in the past. He said he found it under the air filter on the back side of the engine. I didn't see it personaly. Sorry, I should have before I posted this. I can be a :dumbass: sometimes, maybe I missunderstood him. Sorry about any confusion kerrygg.
