All right all you Xterrarists, what do you think of the 2005 Xterra?

We were wondering if they were going to have an offroad edition or not. Looks like they will. I would think "advanced offroad capabilities" is refering to a locker. Way to go Nissan!

I love the new Xterra. I think it looks much better than the new Frontier. If I were to buy a new Nissan, I bet it'd be the '05 Xterra.

Red face

After I posted, I saw references to all the other '05 Xterra threads already established. I should have posted the link to that review in one of those. Oops.

Anyway, the dimensions seem close. It's about he same length. Taller, but wider as well.

Anyone else think the lengthened wheelbase is a mistake? It seems like they are putting ride quality ahead of off-road maneuverability.

I personally like it and My wife and I are looking at buying either the 2004 or 2005, I'll post pics hopefully in the next couple weeks. Gotta do some serious research first! Any info, prices etc. will be greatly appreciated. Also I see where someone above mentioned "a locker" is this something I would want in a 4x? What other options do the 4x's have?
Thanks

The 05 Xterra is based on the Frontier platform so it will most likely have the same options as the Frontier. There will be an "offroad version" similar to the ZR2 upgrades to the S10 4X4. It comes as an auto only (but I suspect this to change after the first year or two) ,has a higher stance than the regular 4X4 model, added skid plate protection and has an elcetronic rear locking differential (yes jackiechan you will want that; it keeps the wheels locked to the axle preventing the tires from spimming when one losses traction) Expect it to cost up to $2000 more than the current models

while the current xterra is very popular and a nice vehicle, it has aged just like the frontier it is based on. If I were you and not in a rush to get a new car I would wait for the 05. Why buy a 7 year old (talking about design) truck when you can have a new one with all the new technology. The 3.3 is no power house when hauling the xterra around and although the S/C has some bite, it's gas mileage and range is rediculous for a smaller SUV. The 05 will be much better off with 40-50 more horsepower and it will be N/A. not to mention the new nissan corporate look on the interior (which I think is very attractive and unique) and everything should be better with this redesign. One thing i'm counting on is nissan will probably pay close attention to build quality on these 3 (xterra, pathfinder, frontier) after all the quality bugs that attacked the Titan, Armada, and Quest. In fact they have a team of engineers going over all the assembly and manufacturing processes to eliminate all these snaffoo's! If you can be patient.... just wait!

Later,

It should be pretty sweet, but it won't be as comfortable as the Pathfinder. The Xterra is more of an offroad 4 door truck that an SUV.
