My '98 Pathfinder has a funny thing - when I come to a stop, as at a red light, and hold the brake pedal on while at the lite, and then when the light goes green and I release the brake, there's a clunk type of sound and I can feel it in the brake - like perhaps the brake shoes coming off the drums . . . or something in the differential.

Brakes were inspected and looked fine.

Any clues?

How many miles do you have on your Pathfinder? Have you ever replaced your control arm bushings for the rear axle? I ask this because the control arm bushings are a very common cause of clunking and swaying for your Pathfinder. It seems that they generally last anywhere from 60,000 – 80,000 miles.

The car has 63k miles, and I bought it used, and doubt that anyone put on these bushings. It's like as if when the car stops, the rear end stays high, and then when it finally comes down, the clunk occurs. Sounds like a bushing to me!
