on my 98 quest 3.0 ive got one 02 sensor up by the engine on the exhaust and there seems to be one after the catalytic convertor??? am i right about this or is this another kind of sensor..?

That's correct. One pre-converter and one post-converter. Not only do they measure the raw oxygen in the exhaust stream, but the computer also compares the two, to measure the effectiveness of the converter.
