Memorial Weekend Project

Wooo Whoo! My Pathy handles better than ever.

What started out as a one day project to install new Powerstop rotors, Axxis pads and Rancho shocks on the front end, took two. I had a general idea what it involved, but when I found myself holding the wheel bearings, decided it would have been a shame if I didn't repack them while they were out. Eight hours later I was done -- with the driver's side. The other side took half the time. Not bad considering its the first time for this Pathy.

The Powerstop slotted/Axxis Metal Master combo are great! There is a significant difference in stopping power over the OE setup. Powerstop calls for a 200-500 mile breakin period of no high speed braking. During this period the rotors must be frequently heat cycled by moderately braking from 35 to 5 mph for 6-10 stops at a time.

Rancho 9000s are now on all four corners. This too is nicer than the OE setup [previously had OE electric adjustables]. The rear shocks are set at 5 and the front shocks at a stiffer 6 [with 9 levels of adjustment]. The fronts were at 5 but there was a bit too much bounce. Thinking about buying the in-cab controls from Rancho. While the front shocks are easily accessed by turning the wheels out, the rear shock settings are a longer reach.

The Pathy handles much better now on our mountain road. RC

Congratulations! I have the Powerstop rotors on my Cadillac and wouldn't have any other. They're a great rotor. Yes, bedding the brakes in is best to do...only really need to do it once. Brake hard from 40-50 down to almost stopped. Accelerate and repeat. After a few times, you'll start to smell the pads. Park it and let them cool. Repeat that process again and you should be good to go. After having Powerstops on your Pathfinder, you won't buy any other type of rotor!

The unfortunate thing is that Powerstop only makes front rotors for the Pathy. I called to confirm that. So I'm now looking for a rear set. [More so now that I have a taste of the Powerstop's performance.] Thus far have only found Brembo and SP Performance. RC
