95 Pathfinder-running issues

I was kind of wandering about the ecu's in these. I am a former dsm owner, and I am used to hearing about a common problem with there ecu's. Are there any common problems with the ecu's used in the pathfinders. I am haveing some issues right now that seem to be ecu related. For one, the speedometer rarely works, and then only when it's warm outside, or the truck has been driven for a while. I have replaced the vss, and also have a used speedo guage out of another pathfinder that I picked up a a yard. Both units do the same thing, i.e. rarely work, only when warm. It also seems to idle a little rough, have a power surge while driving, and backfires occasionally. The power surge feels like timing is being retarded or how a car feels when the knock sensor retard timing. A few days ago, I hooked up my shops scanner to it to do some real time monitoring. There aren't many good parameters to monitor. The strange thing that I noticed was that during the drive test, was that the scanner would show a couple of sensor faults for a second, then would read fine, like a bad electrical connection might cause. Any thoughts on common problems that might cause these sypmtom's???? Thanks in advance for any help.

Wiring harness and relays

Outside of the ECU, I would start with the wiring harness and the relays. Work backward from the VSS looking for shorts and corrosion. Spray the connections with contact cleaner.

For those sensors that had intermittent faults, do the same. RC
