Hey i was wondering if its safe to just buy new shocks and springs(i need them anyway) and cut them. I know its kinda a red neck way to do it but is it safe?
also, this is on a 95 6 banger pathfinder
thanks
Nick

why don't you help a brother out. I know its a redneck way to do it. But can you please explain why it would not be safe.
thanks

A 95 Pathy has torsion bars in the front, right? All ya gotta do is loosen 'em. As for the rear, you should have leaf springs on top of the axles. Get a flip kit to put the axles on top of the springs like a 2wd and use drop blocks. Dropped spindles are the right way to do the front, but they are pricey.

Is lossening the torsion bars gonna be safe? and how will it ride.
Also explain more about doing this.

You will note the torsion bars attached to the lower control arms that extend to under the cab. These bars have a lever arm and a preload bolt that sets the ride height of the truck. Loosening these willl drop the truck, but will make the front end a little soft. This can be overcome by tighter shocks and a stiffer sway bar. You may have to remove the overload bushings to regain some suspension travel.

Oops I forgot about the rear coils. I think you can cut the coils. Just take 1 coil at a time until the proper drop is reached. You can drop coils by heating them, but I've only seen one drop done this way where the car sat even.

Do i need to cut the front coils also? and is this whole way of lowering going to make the truck safer?
thanks

aaron though you were trying to cut leaf springs. cut the coils a little at a time. and loosen the tbars. that will give you what you are looking for cheaply and safely.
is loosening the torsion bars the only way to lower the front end other than getting new control arms?? i am a 1988 nissan kingcab 2wd and i also want to lower it, the bak is no problem i just need to get lowering blocks.
