Hard shifting

my 98 Frontier has a hard shift between 1st and 2nd when it shifts up or down, Not real hard, but enought o make me wonder if its normal. Anyone else have the same experience?

4 cylinder automatic

Yeah, mine was a broken shift fork. Found it when I was tearing down to replace a bearing. Might have a pic, let me check.

sometimes switching to synthetic gear oil helps. Go with redline MT90 or something like it. Be sure to get GL-4 and not GL-5. GL-5 fluids will eat your synchros.

Good to know. If the weather ever dries up around here, I'll do the change. When I change the fluid, is there anything I need to do to make sure the old stuff is throughly removed?

That stuff is for a manual trans.

The most common causes for hard shifting are low fluid level or poor fluid condition.

Checked the fluid and is up to the right levels. Almost missed it because the fluid is so clear I could only notice a hint of red, so I guess what I am getting is what it is suppose to be.

Very sorry I told you to put gear oil in there. I just assumed you had a manual trans.
