1992 Pathfinder SE, 168,000 miles. When I start the engine there is a slight ticking/knocking? noise. Now when I put it in gear and begin to accelerate it get's much louder until the engine warms up and it almost goes away.
I've searched and read several things as to what this might be but I'm still not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Maybe an exhaust manifold. They're famous for this. I have 145K on my '92. They used to quiet down when it warmed up, but now..........well, I guess it's time.

my guess is that kstt is right.
mine did the same thing. well actually it still does the same thing.
does it sound like it is coming from the passenger side of the car. like its behind the glove box?
That's exactly where it sounds like it's coming from. If this is what's wrong how much am I looking at to fix it?
That's the exact problem I have on my 92 Pathy. Check here for the cost to fix it. Based on GtarJohn's response, I decided to wait until this summer and tackle the job myself. RC
