Help!! ecm burned on 1997 4x4 5spd

A short in the wiring harness caused the ecm to catch on fire in my 1997 nissan 5spd 4x4 pickup.
Will the ecm from a '97 automatic trans. 4x4 pickup work as replacement?
I can't manage nissan's 700+ pricetag.
Also of course chilton says nothing about installing replacement ecm. Is it a reasonable DIY job or is there a complex calibration process?
Thanks,
New to nissan

Should be plug-n-play. You might check with Joe at www.everythingnissan.com (call him at 1-888-216-5328) to see if the p/n is the same on the A/T vs M/T ECUs. If not, then look for an exact replacement at www.car-part.com.

Good luck!

Heath

ECM confusion

To add to the confusion, www.car-part.com distinquishs between ECM's for AT and MT for 4x2 trucks, but not for 4x4 trucks. Talk to the parts guy at a Nissan dealer; he would know if they are the same item. RC
