As you gan guess from the subject, my PF just got bronen into last night.
The thugs took a pair of sunglasses with a cracked lens and a booklet where I note all the maintenance I do to the car!! Of corse to get to such praised objects, they broke the driverside door lock and slightly damaged the door body!!
Anyway, as I tried to start the car, it did not. I had to jump start it, although the dome light, chime and other electronics was fine (maybe a little dim); the radio lost its settings. I just looked up my receipts: the battery was installed on 5/5/2000 and has an 84 months limited warranty (Exide Nascar select 25-84N). So I doubt the problem is the battery's age; the terminals look ok. I drove the car for about 10' last night and this morning it struggled to start again, but this time it did it on its own.
I also noticed that now the relay that releases the AT from "P" when I press the breaks is MUCH louder.
1. (main concern) WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED?? Is it possible that they tried to steal it and did somethng that is now causing a slow drain on the battery??
2. Is the AT shift relay noise normal?
3. Can I get a replacement lock on the door without needing a different key??
Also, the car's alarm and keyless entry was disabled by the dealer a few years ago as they diagnosed it to be the cause of the car not starting (ended up being the starter , but now I have no alarm!). Does it make sense to try to make this work again or is it better to get an after market system??
While checking the contacts on my car radio a few months ago, I opened the column below th radio and the ash tray. before getting to the amplifier I had to disconnect a black box that so far has made no difference. is this the alarm system central unit??
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP
