i have a 1994 4x4 pickup up with a 6cyclinder dohc engine. my timing belt broke on me two weeks ago and has been apart ever since. i have the rad fan ect.. all off.
my quetion is .... how do i get it back in to time. i have be messing with it like cazy and can't get it too stay running(will start up but the timing is way out of wack). what i have been doing is tdc #1 piston line the cams up with the marks like the rotor up with number one cyclinder and it will start slow and just die out.
i know its the timing because i turned distributor and you can get it to run better or not run at all.
if i can have steps or something to help me out that would be great
Jay, that engine is not stock in that truck, and nobody here might have experience with the VG30DE. I'd suggest trying the 300ZX forums on this site or elsewhere because that engine was used in that application and they may be able to help you out.
i bought the truck about 3 years ago. the engine has to be stock. Nissan SE-V6 4WD King Cab Pickup. it has two cams w/ the distributor on the right side of it(if you are looking at it from the front). it has about 150,000 on it now run good till this happened.
im going to try the other forums to see what i can find but im stuck on to how to get it to run.

Okay -- if it has two cams TOTAL, one for each head, it's referred to as an SOHC engine (Single OverHead Cam), or VG30E in Nissan-speak. A DOHC engine (Dual or Double OverHead Cam) means there are two cams for each cylinder head, or FOUR TOTAL on a V-6 engine, or VG30DE in Nissan-speak.
Your truck should have the VG30E, or the single cam version, as factory equipment. I would think someone here could help you out. I have the 4-cyl version and haven't personally worked on timing a Nissan V-6 before. I can look in my Haynes manual tonight and see if I can find anything. If you don't have either a Haynes manual or a factory service manual, I'd recommend that. They're pretty helpful in situations like these.

If it's a VG motor (VG30DE) and the timing belt snaped it doesn't look good for you becuase if the timing belt snapes, slips or is installed improperly, there is a strong possibility the valves will hit the tops of the pistons thus causing engine damage and in most cases a new or used engine is needed.
That being said if you replace your belt make sure you only get Nissan OEM parts and nothing else.
When you install your VG30DE timing belt there are three marking on the belt that must be alined with the marking on the cam sprockets and pulley sprocket.
If you are not mechanic incline this is one of the worst engine to learn on and I would suggest you take it to a quality professional.
