Hi all! I'm new to this forum and in need of help. I have a 87 Kingcab 2wd with a 2.4 engine in it. The truck has been sitting for about 2 years but has been started semi-regularly. I bought it from a construction company to use as a work truck originally and then wound up not needing it. Now I need it and it's doing some strange stuff.
Most of my experience working on cars and trucks has been limited to American stuff so some of the stuff on my Nissan is strange to me. The problem with the truck is that it's idling too high and won't kick down to a normal idle unless I mess with a valve on the side of the throttle body. I took the valve off of the throttle body to attempt to clean it and noticed that it has antifreeze running through it which leads me to believe that it controls the idle speed of the engine based on the temperature of the coolant. There are no wires associated with this valve at all.
I cleaned the valve and lubricated all associated linkages with WD-40 and it worked ok for a while but the first time I gave the truck some gas, it went right back to idling high because that valve isn't pushing the high idle cam on the throttle body back enough to allow the truck to return to it's normal idle. The high idle cam *really* takes some effort to move and the valve just doesn't seem to have the power to move it. What I really need to know is what that little valve is called, how much to expect to pay for it and if it's a dealer only item.
On another problem, the clutch on the truck needs to be fully pressed several times in order to *not* grind the gears going into any gear. Since the truck has been sitting so much, could it have developed condensation or somehow allowed air into the slave cylinder? Would bleeding it help?
About the clutch yes bleed it and check for leaks. You might have an air leak that prevents pressure from building up (Just had to replace my Master and Slave on my 300ZX)

I have a 98 Hardbody with the 2.4 also, and also had the idle problem. Mine was too high, but after adjusting it today, I got it perfect..Page 4-28 of the Haynes Automotive repair manual, lower bottom right hand corner, tells you how to adjust the Fast Idle Cam by turning the screw (s1) not the normal throtle screw that is used to raise and lower the idle rate..I tried that one also, I backed the regular idle screw all the way off, and it still idled to high..so I lifted the air cleaner cover up, and found that fsat idle screw, mounted under the air cleaner and tightened it clock wise, this changed the position of the cam follower and the cam roller and fixed the high idle problem, took 20 minutes...maybe this will help, maybe not but thought I would try..Ray
Thanks for the suggestion Ray but I had already considered that. All that is doing is lowering the cold idle of the truck. On another note, I went to the dealer today and asked about the part and the parts guy acted like he thought I was crazy! Now I'm going to have to take the part off and take it up there and show it to him.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
In regards to your question, the part is called the thermo element, its what U replace if you cant (according to the Haynes Manual) ctr. Your roller at the alignment mark by the s1 adjustment screw. Can't give U a price yet, should find out tomorrow, good luck.
