02 Pathfiner LE Tire reccomendations

I have an 02 Pathfinder LE that needs new tires. Everyone seems to agree that the OEM Bridgestones suck but I have not seen anyone reccomend a tire other than the expensive Michelins.

I want to know if anyone has any recomendations for the stock size of 245-65-17 or if anyone has any experience with going to a bigger diameter like the 255-60-17 or 255-65-17. There are a lot more tire choices available in the ladder sizes but I don't wan't to affect my fuel mileage or towing capabilities.

Any advice is appreciated

Thx

yeah the bridgestones that came on the pathfinder are horrible! Those particular OEM tires have a treadwear rating of only 180!!! that's the lowest i've ever seen on a tire. for comparison my General Grabbers have a Treadwear rating of 500 or so and the michelin LTX M/S... that everyone recommends has a rating of 440. My dad has a set of Dunlop Rover Touring LT's that he got from NTB and they have been pretty good tires and last a while! It really just depends on what kind of tire you want. Although I haven't had a problem with the Generals on my truck (that and I don't think they'll ever wear out) I will be switching to Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's just becasue they are a cross between an All Terrain and street tire and are very highly rated in all traction and tire noise amongst the truck tires. that and they are pretty reasonably priced! Just look on the tire rack and look at all the different ratings. I've used those and have never gone wrong following the consumer ratings on tires! Hope this helps

later,

True, and it should really tell you something. I have the Michelin LTX M/S tires on my truck and they're great tires. REALLY good in snow if you have that near you. Treadwear is "only" 440 (which isn't bad for a truck tire), but I believe mine have at least 50k miles on them, just based on their manufacture date (early 2000 for three of them, late 1999 for one of them). I've still got lots of tread left and they wear great. They're quiet and smooth.

My folks just bought some Michelin Cross Terrains for their Jeep Liberty and they're leaps and bounds better than the Goodyears that it came with. Treadwear on those Cross Terrains is over 700!!

Michelin tires are expensive, but you usually get what you pay for, and that's no different with tires. There are some who say you're just paying for the Michelin name, but I don't agree with that. There are plenty of other tires out there that are just as expensive as the Michelins, but are horribly inferior tires. My best recommendation would be to look at tirerack.com and read through the reviews that they have. Customers submit reviews on the tires they buy, and they can give good insight on the tires. By and large, the Michelins always go highly recommended, and I back that 100%. I love the Michelins on my Nissan, I'm on the second set of Michelin Pilot performance tires on my Seville, and don't plan to purchase any other brand of tire in the near future. I've had many (Goodyear, Kelly Springfield, BFGoodrich, Firestone) and none compare to the Michelins, assuming the same class of tire.
