drop in fuel econ

im posting this for my pops since he dont knw how to use a computer.

he has a 98 3.3L SE that is stick with 98,000 on it.

in the past months he has noticed his fuel econ goin down the pooper and for him its a real bad thing cause its his work truck, and he drives about 150 miles a day. he is getting about 14mpg right now.

i told him to replace these things:

~stock air filter or k&n(does k&n have one for this car?)
~stock spark plugs or better ones(ngk?)
~o2 sensor?

any ideas?

A tune up may or may not help. I use a paper air filter, NGK plugs that are factory and pretty much a must have for the Nissan engine and I use dino oils all around. I have a 5 speed with 31” tires and I get 18 miles on the highway and 15-16 around town. I would tell you friend to check his brakes. He may be dragging a pad or more likely a shoe.

All the above mentioned and the fuel filter. I just changed mine and pick up 2 to 3 miles per.

I use a K&N, Mobil1 10W-30, and Bosch Platinums. I get 21-25 MPG if I drive nice. The K&N was for economics only. Paper filters are 10 bucks a piece. The Mobil1 is for peace of mind. Bosch Plats run better at 2 years of age than NGK's run new. I have found this with my Cavalier, Bonneville, Saturn, and my Nissan PU.

The bottom line is that the fuel economy has dropped. That means something has changed. I would look into an air filter and plugs. I would also inspect the brakes. Has anything been changed or adjusted on the truck recently? Tires, brakes, Bug Guard, Bra, Lift Kit, timing? These all can change fuel economy. Good Luck
