Hi everyone! Need some advice. I want to do some car towing with my Pathfinder and I want to know what you guys suggest as far as modifications. I can't afford a big V-8 ford, chevy or gmc. I have a '92 Pathfinder SE-V6. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I'm in the same boat you are. I plan on hauling my turbo B13 SE-R this summer, and have planned some upgrades to my '97 Pathfinder. These are on top of making sure the engine/tranny are in great shape, and have fresh fluids...
1. Transmission cooler. (If yours is an automatic, that is) Available just about anywhere auto parts are sold. Get one for the vehicle's GVW and towing weights. This merely splices into the existing cooler lines, which run into the radiator.
2. Free flowing exhaust. Not a necessity, but couldn't hurt.
3. Trailer hitch. Obvious, but it reallly needs to be properly matched to the load weight you'll be carrying. A little research on the internet can do wonders in this department.
I am not expecting the Pathfinder to be an awesome tow vehicle. The tranny is my biggest concern, so keeping it cool and full of fresh fluid is the best and safest approach, IMHO.
Good luck!
[Edit]: I see you have a '92. You'll need all the power you can get. I once towed a small trailer with Honda GB500 motorcycle in it from Tennessee to Kentucky, in a '92 SE model. That thing struggled the entire trip. 20 more HP would have done wonders. [/Edit]

I would also add Nissan Motorsports cams, JWT ECU and a JWT POP charger. Posibly a Fronteir supercharged radiator. I also used a R50 95-Present tranny cooler.
The cams make a huge difference in power and fuel economy at highway speed, like 4 mpg better.

Hmmm...I didn't know there were cams made for the '92. I guess all this stuff will cost me a pretty penny nonetheless. I wonder if its worth it or just use that money I would've spent as a down payment on a new truck. Either case I'm taking money away from my race car. Thanks for advice guys. If you have the time, Mike, can you give me approximate costs for these items and where the best place to buy them? Thanks!

I'm just a monkey. I don't know shit.
In the white SE-R when the AMG benz did the ricer fly by on 408 :)
I talked to Jim at JWT and he suggested that the best thing to do if I'm towing is not buy cams or the ecu (since their more for high rpm hp) but to get a transmission cooler and smaller tires (like from a pathfinder xe or something). Anyway have any suggestions on a good tranny cooler? Doesn't the SE-V6 already have one?

Spencer Low Racing offers a lot of goodies for the VG33E motors. They have cams, throttle bodies and more. There best stuff is for off-road but the stuff they have for the motors will help you on or off pavement. Here is their site: www.spencerlowracing.com
