1988 Pathfinder---no more 4wd

Gentleman--I am very new to Nissan trucks, and 4wd in general. I have a maxima and a classic SE-R and wanted a cheap Nissan for the winter. I bought the truck with 225k on it for cheap money. Everything was working when I bought it---but I can't seem to get 4wd working any longer. The truck has the push button type. When it is on, the front axles do indeed spin, but the hubs don't lock. Could someone please suggest where I should look next?

Thank you for your time

Mark
