I have a 92 nissan pickup 4cyl, 4X4, manual trans. From time to time it will idle at 1500 to 1800 RPM. I have checked the computer for error codes but there are none. I have noticed the problem more in cold weather. I have seen the RPMs go up to 1500-1800 and go back to normal 800-900 while sitting at stop light. The problem doesn't seem to occur until I have driven the truck. The problem will sometimes go away if I shut the engine off from while and then restart it. Anyone have any ideas?
How's your thermostat... is it warming up to the normal range? I've also heard of a bad TPS (throttle position sensor) causing idle problems. A higher idle when cold is normal, but fluctuations after it's at normal operating temperature is not.

Also try cleaning the engine ground and battery terminals. A bad ground can cause strange reference voltages to the computer and erratic idle operation.

HELLO, I HAVE A 1995 KING CAB 4X4 AND HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. IT COULD BE 2 THINGS.1-IDLE CONTROL VALVE ABOUT 250.00 BUCKS OR A FIDC VALVE-FUEL INJECTION CONTROL DEVICE-66.00 BUCKS TRY THESE 2 OPTIONS FIRST. I WOULD GO WITH THE FIDC VALVE. THE THROTTLE CABLE MIGHT NEED TO BE CLEAN TOO. EMAIL ME AT IGGSPLACE@AOL.COM AND LET ME KNOW, JIM. IM PRETTY SURE IT WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM, IT DID MINE.

Are you sure that it’s not your fast idle control? You mentioned that it happens when it is cold and that the RPM are 1,500-1,800. The reason I ask about the fast idle is because the 3.3L engine has a fast idle of 1,500-1,800 that is controlled by a cam driven by the temperature of the enigne.

I'll take a look at that. From what I tell from the info I have on the 4 cyl (ka24e) it is the same.
In the main wiring harness that feeds the injectors, sending units, etc..
There's a main ground that is crimped, this crimp sometimes has a poor contact. you'll have to solder the connection, once repair is made your idle will be corrected.

It appears to be the FIC. The cam does not move when the engine temperature changes. I can get another piston, the part that moves the cam as the temperature changes. I'll let you know what happens.
